This course is designed to introduce the student to the basic principles of aseptic technique as used in practice. These principles are the foundation upon which the OT technologist bases practice.

  • To gain the knowledge on hygiene, Surgical scrub, Donning and Doffing the sterile gown and gloves, Development and maintenance of sterile field
  • Sterilization/disinfection processes.

  • This course is designed to help students to gain a basic understanding of the English in order to utilize this in rendering service in Operation Theatre and patient care.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

On completion of this course students will be handle the equipment and methods used in the operation theatre and able to handle the OT Setup.

UNIT I: Introduction Sterilization OT instruments

  • Scrubbing, gowning and Gloving.
  • Sterilizing and Disinfection of OT instruments.

UNIT II:  Anesthesia

  • Introduction to anesthesia and its types
  • Anesthesia machine
  • Anesthetic agents

UNIT III: Operation Theater Room & Materials

  • OT table and accessory equipment
  • Operating light, Laryngoscope, Endotracheal tube, c-arm Defibrillator, Surgical Diathermy and Cautery and Suction apparatus

PAPER VI: PRACTICAL

The purpose of this course is to acquire knowledge and develop proficiency in caring for patients with medical and surgical disorders in varieties of health care setting and at home.
